Universities UK and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) published a set of ten reports in 2001 that promote the contribution that English universities make to their region. Nine of the reports look at universities' activities in their region. The tenth, a national overview, provides a framework for considering the rationale for universities' regional engagement.
